Dance class Geelong

Did you see the Torquay Flashmob of 2023? That’s how the new Dance Expresso classes in Geelong began!

Who is Dance Expresso for?

  • Have you been looking for an adult dance class in Geelong or the Surfcoast?
  • Do you light up when you dance? Is Dance your happy place?
  • Has life got in the way of your love for dance?
  • Are you ready to reclaim time for yourself to do something you love?
  • Are you interested in maintaining your fitness through dance?
  • Do you have old stories running that have blocked your inherent love of dance?
  • Are you a complete beginner with no dance experience other than your love of lounge-room dancing?
  • Do you have vast dance experience but looking to explore dance in a relaxed setting?
  • Are you interested in exploring the many aspects of dance beyond learning one particular style?
  • Would you like a one-off ‘Come and Try’ session to see if it’s for you?
  • Are you keen for a dance class that is not focussed on performances?
  • Are you able to commit to a 4-week block?

If you answered Yes to any or all of these questions, then Dance Expresso is for you!

Why is it called Dance Expresso?

Here’s the ‘express’ part:

  • It’s a 4-week block of adult dance classes, held only TWICE A YEAR. The first block begins on Sunday February 11, 2024. 4- 5 pm

Here’s the ‘expression’ part:

  • No this is NOT another Flashmob
  • The emphasis is on fun and acceptance, in a non-judgmental atmosphere.
  • There will be times of learning moves from me, but many other playful activities to open up your creativity and flow. We won’t be doing any one particular style.
  • Within this supportive environment, you will be led to relax into your own unique expression of dance.
  • Through the group connection, we will share and empower our combined love of dance.
  • This is NOT a performance-focused class. We are dancing purely for the joy of the process.

Here’s the ‘expresso’ part:-

Although I can’t promise to make you an actual ESPRESSO, we will build in time for a coffee and social time after the class and at the end of the 4-week block, for those who can stay.

Your facilitator Barb Cook

I have over 40 years of experience facilitating Dance in community and educational settings. I ran my own dance school and have been a sessional Dance therapist in the autism field. Prior to my retirement in 2019, I taught Dance choreography to Year 7 – 12 levels in a secondary school for over 20 years.

I come alive when I dance, and love watching others do the same!

I’ve included a little video at the bottom of this page, so you can get a feel for my energy.

“My experience with Barb’s classes has been so positive! She breaks down all the moves so that even the beginners can dance with confidence at the end of the routine. I’ve enjoyed every minute of my classes and can’t wait for the next workshop! So thank you, Barb, for your gentle and joyful teachings. I have nothing but gratitude for you.”   – Lynda

A little taster

When I created the Flashmob, in October 2023, I would teach a section of the class, then send participants a training and practice video to see them through to the next class. Here’s one of them, so you can get a feel for my facilitating style.
